Bad news for Man United with Roma in ‘pole position’ to sign £40million-rated wonderkid

According to Dutch outlet VI, Manchester United have been dealt a blow in their pursuit of
ustin Kluivert, with Serie A side AS Roma leading the race for his signature.

Juventus and AC Milan are keen on the 19-year-old, but Roma are said to be in ‘pole position’ to sign him.

Kluivert rose through the youth ranks to the first-team in 2017 and has gone on to make 56 appearances in all competitions, scoring and creating 23 goals.

The Dutch international has contributed 15 goals in 30 Eredivisie games for an Ajax side who finished second in the table, four points behind PSV Eindhoven.

His future with Ajax is uncertain, however, as his contract is up in 12 months. Kluivert is in talks with agent Mino Raiola and the Dutch club over an extension and wants a ‘substantial salary increase’. The trio have been in talks since October without coming to an agreement and Roma could capitalise.

The 19-year-old is valued at around £40m. United have a lot of attacking options – Jesse Lingard, Alexis Sanchez, Anthony Martial, Marcus Rashford and Juan Mata – and manager Jose Mourinho has said he doesn’t plan to add to his frontline this summer which could mean United miss out on Kluivert.
